Labour and Coop Candidate for St Nicholas Division of Herts County Council
I am a Borough Councillor for the St Nicholas ward of Stevenage Borough Council and I’m the Labour party candidate for the St Nicholas division of Hertfordshire County Council.
I was born into a socialist family in London, moving to Royston as a child, which enabled my family to get decent housing, schooling and healthcare.
I joined the Labour Party in 1982, and have served as a school governor for 37 years, at 6 different schools, 36 of these years, as chair of Governors of Larwood School for children with emotional, behavioural and mental health difficulties.
I moved to St Nicholas as a young wife and mother back in the days when the estate was new and shiny, I’ve watched it grow, and thrive, through the years under a Labour council. I have always defended the ward against unfair criticism, as being the sum of its parts. It is full of genuinely kind, salt of the earth residents and this is why I’ve chosen to stay here for 50 years.
I genuinely care about our residents, who look out for each other, however over the last 11 years I have seen its deteriorating infrastructure, this I believe is a consequence of cruel and harsh Tory social engineering. I’ve seen how the road , footpaths , schools and social services have all diminished under the weight of Tory cutbacks at county hall.
Our present Tory county councillor seems to enjoy playing golf more than helping improve the lives of the people he pretends to represent. Compared to our neighbours in Woodfield, St Nicholas is relatively poor and the last Labour county councillor that covered much of St Nicholas and surrounding area, Mr Richard Henry, fought for a fair distribution of funding and services. We have seen nothing of this under Tory Cllr Bibby, and this will only get worse post Brexit .
In my time as borough councillor I’ve made it my job to reach out to my constituents, ensuring they know who their councillors are and that I can easily be approached to represent everyone fairly.
I’m actively involved with the work of the St Nicholas Community centre and association and I work closely with Cllrs and partners to deliver community and environmental projects e.g. the environmental works at the St Nicholas shops, the development of the ABC Park and I lead the organisation of St Nicholas day.
I would do this for Labour supporters right across the county division of St Nicholas . Engaging with all of the voters and residents. I have a 100% attendance record at SBC and I serve on more committees than any other councillor. I am on the Labour party’s executive committee, I’m the woman’s officer for the north and a member of the campaign committee.
I am available during the day, when most county meetings are mostly held , and have my own transportation to attend meetings around the county. With this In mind and my burning passion to have our voices heard in county hall.
I ask you to elect me as candidate for st Nicholas division.
