In a previous post we drew attention to proposed service cuts at the QEII hospital in Welwyn. East and North Hertfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is currently engaging with the public and stakeholders on a proposal to change the Urgent Care Centre (UCC)’s opening hours at the New QEII Hospital.
Currently, the UCC for minor injuries and illnesses is open 24 hours a day. The service is well used during the day but less than one person an hour uses it overnight. The CCG is proposing that the UCC shuts its door at 10pm each night, with the two senior nurses working there finishing their patients then coming up to work at the busy Stevenage Lister hospital overnight. The centre would then reopen at 8am each morning.
The CCG is now hosting a second public meeting for those who would like to discuss the proposals and ask questions:
Thursday 15 August, Time 7pm start (arrival from 6.30pm) to approximately 8.30/9pm.
Welwyn Garden City
Attending these events will be Chief Executive Beverley Flowers, the CCG medical director, operations leads, local GPs and representatives from provider organisations (including East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, which provides the UCC service and Herts Urgent Care, who operate NHS 111).
There is parking on site and regular bus services that stop near the building. https://www.oaklands.ac.uk/about-us/college-campuses/welwyn-garden-city-campus
