Labour and Cooperative Party candidate for Bedwell
Hello, I am Matt Creasey and I am the Labour and Cooperative party candidate for Bedwell ward. I was born and raised in Stevenage and it would be a huge honour to be a member of the Borough Council in my hometown that I love. I am a committed socialist and I believe we need to reorganise our society so that it is run by and works for everyone and not just a privileged few.
As a councillor for Bedwell, I promise to work my hardest to represent the people of the ward and to fight for working class people regardless of race, gender or religion. Working people have suffered most during the pandemic and as a result of Tory austerity. We have a Council that understands this and works to protect the people of Bedwell from the harm this Government is causing, and create an environment for Bedwell to prosper and grow.
I fully support the Council’s regeneration of the Town Centre and I will make sure that the Town Centre works best for the people who live on its doorstep, providing a place for work, leisure and culture that we can all enjoy. I will also fight for new safety measures in Bedwell, including improving the street and underpass lighting and improving the footpaths, similar to the much needed improvements to Rockingham Way.
Outside of the Council, I will remain committed to community and grassroots activism. Following the Government’s ending of the eviction ban in September 2020, I set up Stevenage Renters Association to help anyone facing housing issues under the pandemic, whether they are private or council tenants.
I am committed to fighting for the people of Bedwell and all of Stevenage and I am so grateful to Bedwell Labour for giving me this chance to stand as your councillor.
