Helping Stevenage recover from Covid.
Labour’s five pledges to you:
Town Centre Regeneration
Plans for the SG1 area regeneration are pushing forward, contributing to the recovery. The new bus station and transport interchange will be completed in the autumn. Construction of new affordable homes will start on the Matalan site soon.
We will have a recovery plan for our historic High Street, working with local residents and businesses. It includes extension of free parking behind Waitrose for 6 months and we’ve ring-fenced £150,000 grant funding to create a ‘Shop Local’ initiative to incentivise local shopping.
Delivering New Council Homes for Stevenage People
New Homes at Addison Court, Scarborough Avenue and North Road will be completed. Work will continue on the development at Kenilworth Close, including delivery of ‘state of the art’ supported homes for our older and vulnerable residents.
We will continue to invest in existing council homes
Including installing new sprinkler systems for our tower blocks, and £45 million investment in improving all our blocks of flats.
We will be taking a close look at cycling/walking routes in each area, consider 20 mph zones around schools and look at improvements that will work towards ‘Living Streets’. We’ll work with residents to identify local priorities and draw up community plans.
