What a fine night that was!! The overall turnout at the poll was just over 30% which is, sadly, par for the course in a local election.  However, as many people voted as in the past despite predictions.

We thank those electors who put their trust in the local Labour party and its (excellent) candidates.

Adrian Brown took Bandley Hill and brings new vigour to local politics in the south of Stevenage

Cliffhangers happen too.  Teresa Callaghan took Martins Wood by 2 votes so more new vigour …… never let it be said that your vote doesn’t count. Every vote counts as this and the last local election have shown.

We lost Chells to the Lib Dems which is regrettable and will be reversible in due course.

Lorraine Rossati,  refreshingly and deservedly took the Old Town from the Conservative candidate (very pleasing as he is their chairman and now, ex-councillor).

Other than in Chells, all our existing councillors who stood for re-election were given a solid vote of confidence by the electorate  and were returned.

A special mention to all those people who returned spoiled votes.  You were about 200 voters and while some of you returned blank ballots, others returned choice and quite ripe comments.   The Labour Party noticed  and your protest is lodged with the only political Party in the town that is really on your side.

An observers record of the vote is shown below and awaits publication of the official results.
