Alistair Gordon for Longmeadow
Labour and Cooperative party candidate for Longmeadow Ward, Stevenage

I am a passionate believer that everyone contributes to making Stevenage a fantastic town to live in and I want to help Longmeadow residents make a difference in their neighbourhood. I want to work with community groups that have ideas they want to put into action.
I love living in Stevenage because it is so green – nobody is more than a few hundred metres from a green space, whether it is a park, playing field, woodland or countryside. Our Labour-led council has shown its commitment to maintaining our parks, creating wild areas to support wildlife, and investing in community orchards. I’m particularly interested in looking at ways to balance a green environment with the need for housing. I also want people to feel safe in their neighbourhood and have pride in it, and will do everything I can to be tough on antisocial behaviour and fly-tipping.
Professionally, I have twenty years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry. My voluntary work has included working with offenders at Stevenage Probation Service and with people with severe physical and learning disabilities. I have also previously served as a director of the company managing the block of flats in which I lived.
As someone who was born disabled, I understand the difficulties faced by disabled people in accessing services. But more than this, it has given me a sensitivity to how people and groups can be marginalised and socially excluded. I will work with community groups to ensure their voices are heard.
