Stevenage CLP followed up a hugely successful AGM with one of its largest All-Members Meetings yet! Over 50 Labour members and supporters turned out on Saturday 12th March to hear local MEP, Richard Howitt, deliver a briefing on the Labour IN for Britain EU Referendum Campaign currently underway.
“The case for remaining in the EU is an internationalist one, and a patriotic one”
Richard laid out the local, Stevenage, case for remaining in the EU. Beginning with highlighting jobs and trade in Hertfordshire, driven by Stevenage-based multinational companies, such as GSK and MBDA. He then moved on to worker’s rights achieved through, and the diplomatic benefits of EU membership, including the international work being done to combat terrorism.
An engaging and passionate discussion followed, with members contributing their reasons for wanting to remain in the EU.
As the referendum campaign gathers momentum, and with Labour firmly “IN”, the meeting was a great reminder of the enthusiasm for partnership with our continental neighbours and a springboard for the local campaign.
